Jalandhar: Security agencies in Punjab have achieved a major breakthrough in the investigation of the improvised explosive device (IED) blast that occurred outside the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters in Jalandhar. The primary suspect, identified as Anil Sharma, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended following an intensive manhunt. Authorities consider this arrest a pivotal development in the case, as preliminary interrogations have already begun to yield significant information regarding the planning and execution of the attack.

The incident dates back to the evening of May 5, when a powerful explosion rocked the area near the BSF camp at approximately 8 p.m. The blast originated from an IED planted within a scooter, which resulted in the total destruction of the vehicle. While the explosion caused widespread panic, security protocols were immediately activated to secure the perimeter and initiate a forensic analysis of the explosive materials used. It is a relief that despite the destruction of the vehicle, the investigative trail remained warm enough for the authorities to track down those responsible.

In addition to the arrest of the main perpetrator, police have taken another individual into custody for questioning. This latest round of legal action brings the total number of arrests in the case to 17. Investigators are currently focused on uncovering the underlying conspiracy, examining potential cross-border links, and determining if there was any external assistance provided to the suspects for procuring the explosive device. The sheer scale of the arrests suggests a broader network that the police are now systematically dismantling.

The Punjab Police and central agencies continue to collaborate closely to ensure all facets of the security breach are thoroughly explored. With the main accused now in custody, officials are hopeful that the network responsible for the blast will be fully exposed. The state remains on high alert as the investigation delves deeper into the motives behind targeting a high-security defence establishment, ensuring that such unacceptable acts of violence are met with the full force of the law.
