Amritsar: A minor collision on Majitha Road escalated into a violent attack on Monday when an unidentified man opened fire at the car of former Akali Dal leader Anwar Masih’s son, police said. No injuries were reported, but a bullet struck the vehicle before the attacker fled.

According to officials, the incident began when Joel Masih, son of jailed former leader Anwar Masih, accidentally brushed his car against another vehicle while turning onto Fatehgarh Churian Road. Joel said he immediately apologised, and bystanders intervened to defuse the argument. Both parties then left the spot.

However, Joel later realised that the same man was following them. As the vehicle approached, the accused allegedly drove closer and fired multiple shots from a pistol. Joel, his mother, and his young son, who were inside the car, narrowly escaped harm. The bullet hit the vehicle but caused no casualties.

Joel claimed that during the initial argument, the man threatened to shoot him despite the apology. He said he grew concerned only after noticing the vehicle tailing them and then saw the attacker fire from close range. The accused reportedly sped away while brandishing the weapon.

Police reached the location soon after receiving information and began examining multiple angles in the case. Officials confirmed that Joel’s father, Anwar Masih, is currently lodged in a Gujarat prison in connection with a 193-kg drug seizure case dating back to 2020.

Joel has filed a formal complaint and requested protection for himself and his family. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and attempting to identify the accused.
