Amritsar:The Punjab government has suspended Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh in response to a recent uptick in gangster activity in the district, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The move comes after reports of delays in investigating major cases and insufficient action against organised criminal gangs, which raised concerns about the effectiveness of policing in the region. Multiple incidents over the past few weeks reportedly highlighted gaps in ground-level enforcement, prompting administrative scrutiny.
According to sources, the state authorities conducted a thorough review of recent crime trends and inputs from intelligence agencies before arriving at the decision. Officials stressed that the suspension is aimed at ensuring enhanced vigilance and stricter action against organised crime in Amritsar Rural.
The government has not yet announced an official replacement, but assurances have been made that steps will be taken to strengthen law enforcement in the district. The move underscores the administration’s commitment to addressing public safety concerns and reinforcing confidence in the police system.
