AMRITSAR: In a significant blow to the cross-border drug trade, the Counter Intelligence wing of the Amritsar Police has dismantled a high-profile trafficking module, seizing a massive haul of narcotics. Acting on the state government’s mandate to eradicate drug networks, officials arrested three operatives and recovered 6 kilograms of heroin alongside an equal amount of “ICE” or Crystal Methamphetamine. The recovery of such a substantial quantity of synthetic drugs highlights an evolving threat in the region’s ongoing battle against organized crime and cross-border smuggling.
The Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, confirmed on Monday that the arrested individuals were operating a sophisticated logistics chain that relied on drone-based deliveries from across the border. The suspects, identified as residents of Ferozepur and Amritsar, were caught during a swift tactical raid near Padhri village while attempting to hand over the contraband to an associate. Preliminary investigations suggest that the lead operatives were in direct communication with handlers in Pakistan, who used drones to drop the narcotics in the fenced border areas of Atalgarh and Rattan.
Beyond the seizure of drugs, police teams impounded the vehicles used by the trio to transport the illicit cargo through rural tracks. The module was tasked with distributing these high-value narcotics to various dealers across Punjab, acting as a critical bridge for the “drone-to-delivery” pipeline. The authorities have already registered a formal case under multiple sections of the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell, signaling a zero-tolerance approach to those facilitating the entry of poisons into the state.
Following the arrests, specialized investigative teams are now focusing on uncovering the broader network, including the financial trails and the specific “forward linkages” within the state’s drug market. DGP Yadav emphasized that this operation is part of a larger, coordinated strategy to expose the full nexus of smugglers and their local facilitators. With more arrests expected in the coming days, the Punjab Police remains on high alert, intensifying surveillance in border districts to intercept future drone incursions and dismantle the infrastructure supporting these narco-terrorist activities.
