Amritsar: A 68-year-old man was found dead in the sarovar of Gurdwara Sri Santokhsar Sahib in Amritsar after a search operation was launched following his disappearance in the water.
The deceased has been identified as Maninder Singh, who reportedly ran a shop selling artificial jewellery at the IDH Market in Amritsar.
According to the information available, Maninder Singh had reached Gurdwara Sri Santokhsar Sahib around 1:30 pm on Saturday to pay obeisance. He later entered the sarovar for a bath while still wearing his clothes.
CCTV Footage Shows Man Entering Sarovar
CCTV footage from the gurdwara has surfaced following the incident. The footage reportedly shows Maninder Singh entering the sarovar while wearing his clothes.
There is a suspicion that he may have drowned, although the exact cause of death is yet to be established.
Body Recovered After Search Operation
Following the incident, the gurdwara committee launched a search operation in the sarovar. Police also reached the spot and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Maninder Singh’s body was subsequently recovered from the sarovar. Police took the body into custody and initiated further proceedings.
Police Examine CCTV Footage
Police have recorded statements from the deceased’s family members as part of the investigation.
Officials are also examining CCTV footage from the gurdwara to establish the sequence of events leading up to Maninder Singh’s death.
Police said further legal action will be taken based on the family’s statements and facts emerging during the investigation.
