Amritsar— Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday said that the directive issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib is above all else for him, asserting that he will present himself not as the Chief Minister, but as a humble Sikh, walking barefoot to comply with the summons.

In a statement, Mann said he accepts the hukamnama from Sri Akal Takht Sahib with full reverence and humility. He added that his faith in the supreme Sikh temporal authority has always been paramount and will continue to remain so in the future.

The Chief Minister also sought an apology for January 15, stating that he is scheduled to be in New Delhi on that day to attend a conference at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, where the President of India is expected to participate. Mann clarified that despite this engagement, Sri Akal Takht Sahib holds the highest place in his life and conscience.

He emphasised that the sanctity of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the directives issued from the sacred Takht are supreme for him and will always remain so, underscoring his commitment to Sikh traditions and values.

The statement comes amid heightened attention over the Akal Takht’s recent summons and the broader Panthic issues under discussion.
