Mohali: In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, Mohali Police have arrested Harmandeep Singh, a proclaimed offender who had been on the run since 2019 in a narcotics case. The arrest was made by a special police team acting on the directions of SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans.
Harmandeep Singh, a resident of Sohali village in Kharar tehsil, was booked under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act in Case No. 199 registered on September 18, 2019, at Phase-1 Police Station, Mohali. Investigators had recovered 20 grams of heroin from him during the initial probe, but he managed to escape and remained absconding for six years before being declared a Proclaimed Offender.
Acting on SSP Hans’ instructions, SP (Investigation) Sourav Jindal and DSP (Special Crime) Naveenpal Singh Lahil led a dedicated PO staff team that worked in coordination with Phase-1 police. After sustained surveillance, the fugitive was traced and arrested on November 24. He was produced before the court and sent to jail.
SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said the police will continue their crackdown on all fugitive criminals and warned that no offender will be allowed to evade the law.
