Moga, Punjab: The Aam Aadmi Party has expelled its sitting Moga Mayor, Baljit Singh Channi, over allegations of anti-party activities and misconduct. The party has also taken his resignation from the post of Mayor.

Channi is accused of allegedly demanding money from a woman in exchange for helping her escape action in a criminal case. After the matter came to light, the party acted swiftly, removing him from all positions.

Baljit Singh Channi was elected unopposed as the Mayor of Moga Municipal Corporation on August 21, 2023. He became AAP’s first mayor in Punjab. Earlier, a no-confidence motion was passed against Congress Mayor Nitika Bhalla, after which Channi secured the position with the support of councillors.

During the Moga Municipal Corporation House meeting, Channi was elected in the presence of 42 out of 50 councillors, including 32 from AAP and 10 from other parties.
