Dinangar: Nearly 400 students and staff of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Dabburi village, under the Dinanagar constituency, were trapped in floodwaters after the Ravi River overflowed beyond its banks. The rising water spread nearly 12 to 13 kilometers from the river, submerging several nearby villages including the area where the school is located.
The school premises were inundated with nearly five feet of water, leaving students and staff stranded. Parents, anxiously waiting about two kilometers away from the school, looked on as rescue efforts unfolded.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), with support from local villagers, carried out a large-scale operation to evacuate the children and staff safely. After hours of coordinated efforts, all students were successfully rescued and handed over to their family members waiting nearby.
Authorities have urged residents in low-lying areas to remain alert as water levels continue to rise in the Ravi River basin.
