Chandigarh: Anticipating unrest ahead of the student bandh scheduled for November 10, the Panjab University (PU) administration has implemented stringent security measures, including a ban on the entry of outsiders and vehicles onto the campus starting Saturday.
The university’s decision comes amid growing tensions on campus following recent student protests. Authorities said the move is aimed at preventing any untoward incidents and ensuring that academic and administrative activities continue smoothly in the lead-up to the bandh.
In an advisory issued to students and staff, the administration directed all students to carry and display their university identification cards at all times. Security personnel have been instructed to verify IDs at entry points and patrol key areas of the university.
“The safety of students and preservation of campus peace are our top priorities,” said a senior PU official. “We urge all students to cooperate with the administration and avoid participating in any disruptive activity.”
Meanwhile, several student organisations have reaffirmed their call for the bandh, asserting that their protest will remain peaceful. Additional police deployment has been requested as a precautionary measure to avert any confrontation.
The university will review the situation on November 10 before deciding whether to extend the restrictions.
