Tarn Taran: In preparation for the upcoming Tarn Taran Assembly by-election, the district administration has enforced strict restrictions to maintain peace and ensure fair polling. District Magistrate Rahul (IAS) announced a 72-hour ban on all forms of public gatherings, rallies, and campaign events starting 6:00 PM on November 9 until 6:00 PM on November 11, 2025.

The order, issued under the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), bars political meetings, protests, and the entry of voters or supporters from outside the constituency during this sensitive period.

In addition, the administration has prohibited the broadcast or display of election-related materials, including opinion polls, surveys, and campaign advertisements, across television, cinema halls, and online platforms that could influence voters.

To ensure order at polling stations, gatherings of more than five people within a 100-metre radius of any voting booth are banned. The use of loudspeakers and sound systems for campaigning has also been restricted during this period.

The counting of votes, slated for November 14 at the International College of Nursing, Piddi, will see similar security measures in place. No assembly of five or more individuals will be allowed within 100 metres of the counting centre from 6:00 PM on November 11 until results are finalized.

While door-to-door canvassing will continue to be allowed, the administration has warned that group gatherings will invite legal action under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023.

“These measures are necessary to prevent disturbances and ensure that polling proceeds smoothly and transparently,” said District Magistrate Rahul, emphasizing that the restrictions will stay in force until November 14.

The Tarn Taran by-poll has drawn close attention from both state and national political parties, making the administration’s security directives crucial for maintaining calm in the region.
