Faridkot: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Faridkot Police has uncovered and dismantled an organised heroin trafficking ring following a two-month intelligence-led probe that reportedly began with inputs gathered from inside a jail.

Police officials said six individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, including a serving Army personnel and a former police official who had earlier been dismissed from service. Investigators claim the group was actively involved in the distribution of narcotics and had links to multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

During coordinated raids, authorities recovered approximately 4.8 kilograms of heroin. In addition to the contraband, officers seized a firearm and two vehicles — a Mahindra Thar and an XUV — which were allegedly being used to facilitate the illegal trade.

Sources indicated that the operation was launched after intercepting communication suggesting that a trafficking module was being managed and coordinated from within a correctional facility. Surveillance and follow-up inquiries eventually led police to identify and apprehend the suspects.

An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is in progress to trace both the supply chain and distribution network linked to the accused. Officials are examining possible connections to other states and are working to identify additional individuals who may be part of the larger network.

Reaffirming its stance against drug trafficking, Punjab Police stated that sustained efforts are being made to curb the narcotics menace and maintain law and order across the state.
