Rudraprayag: Continuous rainfall in the higher reaches of Uttarakhand has led to a sharp rise in the water levels of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers, prompting authorities in Rudraprayag district to maintain round-the-clock surveillance along vulnerable stretches.
District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Nandan Singh Rajwar said heavy rainfall in the high Himalayan regions, including Chamoli and Kedarnath, has increased the flow in rivers passing through Rudraprayag.
Although the Mandakini River is currently flowing below the official warning level, officials are closely monitoring the situation in view of the ongoing wet spell.
Rajwar said disaster management teams, local civic bodies and the police are prepared to issue immediate alerts if the river level approaches or crosses the warning mark. Residents and visitors will be advised to stay away from riverbanks to prevent any untoward incidents.
He added that continuous monitoring is being carried out at sensitive locations, while authorities remain on high alert to respond swiftly in case of any sudden rise in water levels.
The administration has urged people to exercise caution, avoid venturing near rivers and follow official advisories as rainfall is expected to continue in parts of the state.
