New Delhi — Netflix Co-Chief Executive Officer Ted Sarandos met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday evening to discuss strategies for expanding the global reach of India’s media and entertainment industry. Marking a decade of operations in the country, the streaming platform announced the launch of the “Netflix India Storytelling Initiative,” a targeted investment designed to nurture emerging creative talent through skilling and educational partnerships.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the vast growth potential of the domestic entertainment sector, noting that India boasts a rich tradition of narrative craftsmanship alongside a deep pool of talent. He emphasized that these creative capabilities can be leveraged to establish the nation as an international hub for content creation. Sarandos expressed strong optimism regarding the future of Indian content, encouraging local creators to utilize the platform to bring original local stories to global audiences.
The newly unveiled initiative will focus on developing skills across emerging media domains through institutional collaborations with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies and the National Film Development Corporation. The programs will offer specialized training in fields such as visual effects, media technology workflows, and accessible content creation, creating structured pathways for the next generation of storytellers and technical professionals across the country.
