SBS Nagar: In a significant security success, the Counter-Intelligence unit in Jalandhar, in collaboration with SBS Nagar Police, has dismantled a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module reportedly directed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The operation, carried out across Tonk and Jaipur districts in Rajasthan, led to the arrest of five suspected operatives linked to the group.
According to officials, the network was being coordinated by foreign-based handlers, Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawashehria, and Zeeshan Akhtar, under the command of Pakistan-based BKI leader Harwinder Singh Rinda. Intelligence inputs revealed that the group had recently attempted an attack on a liquor shop in SBS Nagar and was preparing to execute further strikes during Independence Day celebrations.
During the recovery process, one suspect allegedly opened fire at police personnel. In the retaliatory exchange, he sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, SBS Nagar.
Authorities recovered one 86P hand grenade, a .30 bore pistol, two live cartridges, and two empty shells. A case has been registered at the Police Station City Nawanshahr under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosive Substances Act.
Officials described the bust as a major step in disrupting cross-border terror coordination and averting potential large-scale attacks in Punjab.
