Kolkata: During his visit to West Bengal ahead of the upcoming elections, Narendra Modi spent Friday morning on a river cruise along the Hooghly River, where he offered prayers to the Ganga and interacted with locals.
The Prime Minister, who is in the state for campaigning, used the occasion to connect with the cultural and spiritual significance of the river. He described the Ganga as an integral part of Bengal’s identity, highlighting its deep-rooted connection with the region’s heritage.
During the cruise, Modi met boatmen and acknowledged their daily struggles and dedication. He also engaged with people present along the riverbanks, including morning walkers, listening to their concerns and appreciating their contributions.
Following the river visit, the Prime Minister shared his reflections on social media, calling the experience meaningful and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to offer prayers to the sacred river.
He also took a closer look at iconic landmarks such as the Howrah Bridge and Vidyasagar Setu from the water, capturing glimpses of the city through his camera.
The outreach comes at a crucial time as political activity intensifies in the state, with the Bharatiya Janata Party aiming to expand its presence, while the ruling Trinamool Congress seeks to retain power.
Modi reiterated his commitment to the development of West Bengal, stating that the progress and prosperity of its people remain a key priority.
