New Delhi: The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check Unit has debunked a viral video circulating on social media that falsely portrays Prime Minister Narendra Modi as threatening strict action against students who participated in the Jantar Mantar protest.

According to PIB, the video is fake and has been digitally manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI). The altered clip falsely claims that the Prime Minister warned students protesting against the government that they would face consequences for their participation.

The fact-checking agency stated that the viral content is a deepfake, created by modifying an original video of the Prime Minister and replacing its context with fabricated audio and messaging. PIB said the original video bears no connection to the claims being circulated online.

The agency also alleged that Pakistan-based propaganda accounts have been actively sharing the manipulated video in an attempt to spread misinformation and mislead social media users.

To expose the fabrication, PIB released a side-by-side comparison of the original and altered videos, highlighting how AI technology was used to distort the Prime Minister’s remarks and falsely depict him as threatening action against students involved in the Jantar Mantar protest.

Urging the public to remain cautious, PIB advised users not to share unverified videos and to rely on official government channels for authentic information. The fact-checking unit reiterated that the viral clip is entirely fabricated and forms part of a misinformation campaign using AI-generated content.
