Chandigarh: Soon after being appointed president of the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Kewal Singh Dhillon outlined an ambitious roadmap for the state, asserting that the party would work toward transforming Punjab into a leading region through development, employment generation, and farmer welfare.
Dhillon said Punjab needed a fresh political direction focused on progress and opportunities for the younger generation.
He stated that one of the BJP’s primary priorities would be creating employment avenues for the youth while also addressing the concerns of the farming community. According to him, strengthening agriculture and ensuring better support systems for farmers would remain central to the party’s agenda in the state.
Dhillon also expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge as a major political force in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. He claimed the party was preparing to build a strong organisational structure across the state and would work to connect with people at the grassroots level.
His appointment comes at a crucial political moment as parties have started intensifying preparations for the next Assembly elections. The BJP leadership has recently been focusing on expanding its outreach in Punjab by strengthening its cadre base and bringing in experienced leaders from different regions of the state.
Dhillon, who previously served as MLA from Barnala, is considered a prominent political face in the Malwa belt and has remained active in Punjab politics for decades. Party leaders believe his experience and regional connect could help the BJP broaden its influence in the state.
Political observers say the BJP may attempt to project issues such as development, employment and governance more aggressively in the coming months as it seeks to expand its support base in Punjab.
