Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday stepped down from his post, formally submitting his resignation to the Governor’s office through the Special Secretary at Lok Bhavan. In the absence of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who is currently in Indore for personal reasons, Special Secretary Prabhu Shankar received the resignation on behalf of the Raj Bhavan.
Officials at Lok Bhavan indicated that the resignation will be processed as per constitutional procedure once the Governor returns and examines the formal communication.
Addressing the media alongside Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah said he had acted in accordance with the directive of the party leadership. “I have kept my commitment and stepped down as Chief Minister when the High Command asked me to do so,” he stated.
Expressing gratitude for his tenure, Siddaramaiah said he was thankful for the opportunity to serve Karnataka twice. He also acknowledged senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, for their support during his political journey.
“I am confident that the Governor will accept my resignation in line with constitutional provisions,” he added during his press interaction.
Meanwhile, the political development sparked reactions across the state, with reports of protests emerging from Yadgir, where supporters of Siddaramaiah raised slogans against the Congress high command expressing disappointment over his resignation.
The resignation marks a key moment in Karnataka’s political landscape, with expectations now building over the next steps in leadership transition within the state government.
