Baramati (Maharashtra): Maharashtra is set to accord a solemn farewell to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday, as his final rites will be conducted with full state honours in his hometown of Baramati. The veteran leader lost his life in a tragic plane accident, sending shockwaves across the political spectrum and beyond.
The funeral ceremony is scheduled to take place around 11 am at the Vidya Pratishthan sports complex in Baramati, Pune district. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to attend, along with senior leaders from various political parties, to pay their respects. Earlier in the day, Pawar’s mortal remains were moved from the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Hospital, where they had been kept overnight, to his native Katewadi village near Baramati. A steady stream of mourners gathered along the route, offering floral tributes and bidding an emotional goodbye to the popular leader.
The state government has announced full ceremonial honours for the late deputy chief minister in recognition of his long public service and contributions to Maharashtra’s political and social landscape. Security arrangements have been tightened, and extensive logistical preparations have been made to manage the large turnout expected for the funeral.
