Ottawa: A major revelation linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has surfaced in Canada, where investigators claimed the criminal network sent a letter to police boasting of having nearly 1,000 members prepared to carry out shootings and extortion activities.

According to a report by Global News, the disclosure emerged during a deportation hearing involving alleged extortion-linked operations targeting South Asian businesses across Canada.

During the proceedings, investigator Kevin St. Louis testified that the gang’s alleged operations extended across multiple provinces and involved systematic extortion threats directed at business owners.

Investigators said the letter was sent to a police station in Abbotsford, British Columbia, in August 2025. The communication allegedly warned that businesses were expected to pay “tax” in exchange for protection from violent attacks.

Paul Walker confirmed that the letter had been received and said its contents were shared with law enforcement agencies probing the ongoing extortion crisis affecting South Asian communities in Canada.

Police alleged that many extortion threats were made through WhatsApp calls using the names of Lawrence Bishnoi and his close associate Goldy Brar. Authorities also identified Jora Sidhu as a key individual allegedly involved in managing communications connected to the threats.

Canadian investigators claimed the gang has been linked to shootings targeting homes and businesses in provinces including British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.

Authorities further alleged that several individuals connected to these operations were temporary foreign workers or international students who had recently arrived in Canada.

The matter surfaced during deportation proceedings against Jashandeep Singh, who is accused of links to extortion-related violence.

Canada had designated the Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity last year amid increasing concerns over organised crime, targeted shootings and extortion activities affecting the South Asian community in the country.
