Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand: A joint emergency response operation in Uttarkashi helped save a labourer who became stranded in the strong currents of the Yamuna River near the Kharadi suspension bridge.
The incident came to the attention of local authorities, following which teams from the police, Fire Department and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were mobilised to the location.
The rescue personnel faced challenging conditions as the river was flowing with considerable force. After reaching the area and assessing the situation, the teams coordinated their efforts to safely reach the stranded labourer.
The worker was eventually pulled out of the river and brought to safety. The successful operation involved close coordination between the three emergency response agencies.
The incident once again highlights the dangers associated with strong river currents in Uttarakhand, particularly in areas near bridges and riverbanks. Authorities have repeatedly stressed the need for people to remain cautious around fast-flowing water and avoid approaching river channels during hazardous conditions.
The timely intervention of the police, Fire Department and SDRF helped ensure that the incident did not result in a loss of life.
