NEW DELHI: Entry and exit gates across six central Delhi Metro stations—Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Mandi House, and Barakhamba Road—have been closed to commuters from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Monday following security directives issued ahead of an opposition protest march toward the Supreme Court. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation confirmed that while street-level entry and exit gates remain shut, interchange facilities across all corresponding lines will continue to operate normally.
The transport curbs follow an intensified security deployment across New Delhi and Central Delhi. In a statement shared on X, the DMRC noted that security agencies will review conditions on the ground through the day before announcing further updates on normalising station operations.
Simultaneously, the Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory cautioning motorists about major vehicular diversions and severe bottlenecks starting from 6:00 AM across prominent transit junctions, arterials, and flyovers. Commuters across the central administrative zone have been advised to anticipate significant delays and take alternative transit routes while security personnel monitor law-and-order developments.
The heightened administrative precautions follow a call by the INDIA bloc and Congress leadership to march to the Supreme Court on Monday. Opposition members of Parliament and political leaders are staging the demonstration to flag alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and to press for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
