Kapurthala: In a major breakthrough against illegal weapons trafficking, the Punjab Police has dismantled an arms supply module in Kapurthala, arresting two individuals, including a juvenile. Authorities also recovered five country-made pistols of 7.65 mm calibre during the operation.
Police officials said the arrests were made following a carefully planned intelligence-based operation aimed at curbing the spread of illegal firearms in the region. The accused were allegedly involved in transporting and distributing illicit weapons to criminal elements.
Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects were operating under instructions from handlers based overseas, particularly in the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates. Investigators believe the duo had sourced the weapons from illegal suppliers in Madhya Pradesh before bringing them into Punjab for further distribution.
According to police sources, the seized firearms were intended to be used in incidents involving intimidation, gunfire, and extortion, raising concerns about their potential impact on public safety if they had reached criminal gangs.
Officials confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network. Authorities are currently working to trace both the supply chain of the weapons and the individuals who were expected to receive them.
The police stated that efforts will continue to identify additional associates and dismantle the wider network involved in the illegal arms trade. The force reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state and preventing criminal groups from gaining access to illegal weapons.
