New Delhi: India observed its 77th Republic Day on Monday, with nationwide celebrations highlighting the country’s democratic values, cultural diversity and growing global stature.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to citizens, urging them to renew their commitment toward building a developed and inclusive nation. In a message shared on social media platform X, he said the occasion should inspire fresh energy and collective determination in the journey toward a “Viksit Bharat.”
“Warm wishes to everyone on Republic Day. May this historic day strengthen our resolve and motivate us to work together for a prosperous and progressive India,” the prime minister wrote.
The central celebrations unfolded along Kartavya Path in the heart of the capital, where a vibrant parade showcased India’s developmental achievements, rich cultural traditions and defence capabilities. Marching contingents from the armed forces, tableaux representing states and ministries, and displays of newly inducted military formations formed the highlight of the event.
Visitors and viewers also witnessed replicas and presentations of advanced defence equipment, reflecting India’s expanding technological and strategic capabilities, including systems associated with recent military operations.
This year’s celebrations are themed around the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” the iconic song that played a vital role in inspiring the freedom movement. The motif underscores the spirit of patriotism and unity that continues to shape the nation’s identity.
Across the country, citizens marked the day by hoisting the national flag, participating in cultural programmes, and paying tribute to the framers of the Constitution, which came into effect on January 26, 1950, formally establishing India as a sovereign republic.
