Jagraon: A late-night firing incident at Gurdwara Manji Sahib Patshahi Dashmi in Jagraon triggered concern after two unidentified, masked individuals allegedly arrived on a motorcycle and fired shots at the door of a room occupied by the head caretaker, Baba Baldev Singh, around 3:15 am.
According to the available information, the suspects entered the gurdwara premises, opened fire at the residential room’s entrance and fled immediately afterwards. The sudden gunshots created panic at the religious complex.
Baba Kulwant Singh, the gurdwara’s head Granthi, said he was inside the premises with another person when they heard the firing. Both rushed outside and saw two individuals with their faces covered escaping after shooting at the caretaker’s room.
No further details about injuries or the extent of damage were immediately available.
Senior Police Officers Visit the Spot
Following the incident, a police team reached the gurdwara to investigate. Sudhar police station SHO Rajinder Pal Singh and Dakha DSP Karan Singh Sandhu were among the officers who visited the scene.
Police have begun examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting, with efforts focused on identifying the suspects and establishing their motive.
DSP Karan Singh Sandhu told the press that specialised teams had been constituted to track down those involved. He said the case was being investigated thoroughly and that appropriate legal action would follow.
Investigators are looking into different possible angles to determine why the religious institution was targeted.
Earlier Firing Incident at Another Jagraon Gurdwara
The latest incident has also drawn attention to a similar episode reported recently at Gurdwara Sahib Bhagat Dhanna Ji in Gagda village, near Jagraon.
In that case, an unidentified person with a cloth covering the face allegedly fired two rounds at the gurdwara gate after leaving a threatening letter there. A video of the incident has reportedly surfaced.
According to the account of the footage, the individual first throws a letter through the gate before looking around and taking out a firearm. The person appears to struggle with the weapon, repeatedly checking it after it slips from the hand, before eventually firing two shots and fleeing.
The circumstances of the two incidents have raised questions about security at religious sites in the area. However, any connection between the shootings remains unestablished based on the information currently available.
Investigation Focuses on Suspects and Motive
Police are working to establish the identities of the individuals involved in the latest shooting and determine what prompted the attack. The formation of specialised teams is part of the ongoing effort to apprehend the suspects.
The incident has caused concern among people associated with the gurdwara, given that the firing took place inside its premises during the early hours of the morning.
Further details are expected as investigators examine the available evidence and pursue leads in the case.
