Granthi Shot Dead by Ex-Army Man in Tarn Taran After Personal Dispute

Chohla Sahib/Tarn Taran, October 22, 2025: In a shocking incident, a former Army personnel allegedly shot dead his cousin following a personal dispute in Nathupur village under the Chohla Sahib police station limits of Tarn Taran district on Wednesday morning.

The victim, identified as Ranjit Singh Rana (38), served as a Granthi at Gurdwara Isharser Nanaksar Harike Patan. According to police officials, the accused, Harpal Singh Pala, son of Balkar Singh and a resident of the same village, had been involved in an ongoing quarrel with Ranjit Singh over personal matters. Both lived in adjacent houses.

Police said the incident occurred when Ranjit Singh stepped out of his home early in the morning. Harpal Singh allegedly opened fire with a rifle, hitting Ranjit Singh fatally. The injured victim was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Ranjit Singh is survived by his wife and a son.

Upon receiving the information, SHO Baljinder Singh and his team reached the spot, recorded witness statements, and began an investigation into the murder. Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused, who fled the scene after the shooting.

Authorities said the accused is expected to be apprehended soon, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the killing.
