Amritsar: A large-scale renovation and beautification project has commenced at the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, with work beginning on the stretch connecting Guru Ramdas Langar Hall to Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai Sahib.

The initiative has been launched jointly by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Kar Seva Bhuri Walon to improve infrastructure and enhance the spiritual surroundings for the thousands of devotees who visit the holy shrine daily.

SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami formally inaugurated the project after offering Ardas and described the development as an important step toward preserving and enhancing the sanctity of the sacred complex.

He said the proposal had been under discussion for a long time and is now being executed under a detailed master plan aimed at creating a more organised, green and pilgrim-friendly route.

As part of the project, fresh plantation will be carried out along the pathway to add greenery and improve the overall atmosphere. The renovation will also include an upgraded drainage network to prevent waterlogging and ensure smoother movement for visitors during all weather conditions.

Dhami said special attention is being given to the convenience of devotees, with improved facilities planned throughout the route.

He also appealed to the Sikh community and devotees worldwide to support the initiative through service and contribution.

Baba Kashmir Singh, head of Kar Seva Bhuri Walon, said the route is among the busiest within the shrine complex as it connects key locations including Teja Singh Samundri Hall, Guru Hargobind Sahib Yatri Niwas, Mata Ganga Ji Niwas and Guru Arjan Dev Yatri Niwas.

He noted that large numbers of pilgrims use the pathway every day and assured that construction work would be completed at the earliest while ensuring minimal inconvenience to visitors.

The project is expected to significantly improve both accessibility and aesthetics within one of Sikhism’s most revered spiritual sites.
