Hoshiarpur: A four-year-old boy who accidentally fell into a deep borewell in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district was rescued safely after an intense overnight operation involving multiple rescue agencies and local residents.
The child, identified as Gurkaran Singh, fell into the narrow borewell at Chak Samana village along the Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road, triggering panic among family members and villagers. A massive rescue effort was launched immediately, continuing for nearly nine hours before the boy was finally brought out safely around 12:40 am.
Following the rescue, Gurkaran was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical examination and observation.
The operation was jointly carried out by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Punjab Police, district administration officials and villagers, who worked continuously through the night to save the child.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain and Senior Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Malik remained at the site throughout the operation, supervising rescue efforts and coordinating between different teams.
Officials said a camera and oxygen pipe were lowered into the borewell shaft to monitor the child’s condition and ensure he received continuous oxygen support while rescuers worked to reach him.
The Deputy Commissioner said the technical expertise of more than 40 NDRF personnel proved crucial in the challenging mission, helping responders safely extract the child from the confined space.
Punjab Jails Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh and Hoshiarpur Member of Parliament Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal also stayed at the site during the rescue and praised the determination shown by all agencies involved.
Dr. Ravjot Singh said the district administration, with support from disaster response teams and local villagers, made comprehensive arrangements to ensure the child was rescued without harm.
MP Chabbewal described the mission as highly sensitive and commended the coordinated efforts that led to its successful conclusion after several hours of painstaking work.
SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik thanked all rescue personnel for their courage and teamwork, saying their commitment and swift action helped save a young life.
The successful operation brought immense relief to the child’s family and villagers, who had anxiously waited through the night praying for his safe return.
