Kulgam, Jammu & Kashmir – Security forces launched a joint anti-terrorist operation in the dense forests of Gudar, Kulgam, leading to a fierce exchange of fire with militants. While one militant was killed during the encounter, One army officer got injured.
The identification of the terrorist, killed in encounter, is yet to be ascertained.
The operation was initiated following credible intelligence inputs about the presence of armed terrorists in the area.
According to officials, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Army sustained injuries during the initial exchange. He was immediately shifted to a medical facility for treatment. The injured officer’s condition is said to be stable.
The encounter, which broke out earlier in the day, saw the combined participation of the Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The area has been sealed off, and an extensive search is underway to flush out the hiding militants.
Confirming the development, the Kashmir Zone Police stated on social media that contact was established with the suspects in the forested region of Gudar, and the gunfight is continuing.
Heavy security presence remains in the region, with authorities on alert for possible movement of additional armed groups in adjoining areas. Further details on the operation are awaited.
