Glasgow: India continued its impressive run at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with long-distance runner Gulveer Singh delivering a historic performance by claiming the silver medal in the men’s 10,000m final. The achievement added another milestone to India’s athletics campaign and took the country’s overall medal tally to 12 on Day 6 of the Games.
Gulveer clocked 27:49.78 to finish second in a fiercely contested race, becoming one of India’s standout performers in track events. Australia’s Ky Robinson secured the gold medal, while David Mullarkey of the Isle of Man finished third to claim bronze.
Earlier in the day, weightlifter Harjinder Kaur added another silver to India’s tally in the women’s 69kg category. She registered a combined lift of 227kg, comprising 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk, to finish second on the podium. Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau clinched gold after setting new Commonwealth Games and Games records with a total lift of 240kg.
India’s boxing contingent also kept the medal hopes alive. Jadumani Singh advanced to the men’s semifinals, while Priya Ghanghas, Preeti Pawar, and Lovlina Borgohain booked places in the women’s semifinals. With all four boxers guaranteed at least bronze medals under the tournament format, India’s assured medal tally has now risen to 16.
However, the day also brought a few disappointments for the Indian camp. National swimmer Srihari Nataraj missed out on a place in the men’s 100m backstroke final after finishing sixth in his semifinal with a timing of 55.52 seconds.
In boxing, Kapil Pokhariya bowed out of the men’s 90kg event after suffering a unanimous decision defeat to Scotland’s Robert McNulty in the quarterfinals, ending his medal hopes.
Young high jumper Pooja also saw her campaign come to an end after failing to clear 1.82 metres in her three attempts, missing out on a place among the medal contenders.
Despite a few setbacks, Day 6 proved to be another successful outing for India, with standout performances in athletics, weightlifting, and boxing further strengthening the country’s medal prospects at the Glasgow Games.
