Amritsar: In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have unearthed a cross-border drug smuggling network and arrested two individuals, recovering 4.13 kilograms of heroin from their possession.
Police officials said preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were in direct contact with handlers based in Europe, as well as operatives currently lodged in jails. The network is believed to have been actively involved in smuggling drugs across borders and distributing them in parts of the Majha and Doaba regions of Punjab.
Authorities revealed that both suspects have a criminal history, with previous cases registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.
An FIR has been registered at Sultanwind police station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway to trace the full extent of the network, including its international links and local distribution channels.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to curbing drug trafficking in the state, stating that sustained efforts are being made to dismantle such networks and ensure public safety.
