Chandigarh: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been granted a fresh spell of parole for 40 days, marking yet another temporary release from prison. The decision comes nearly five months after he was granted a similar parole period in August last year.
Officials said the parole was cleared by the Rohtak Divisional Commissioner, and arrangements are being made for his release from jail, which is expected either on Sunday or Monday.
This is the 15th occasion on which Ram Rahim has been permitted to step out of prison on parole or furlough since his conviction in multiple criminal cases. He is currently serving a 20-year sentence following his conviction for the rape of two of his followers. In a separate case, he was also sentenced to life imprisonment for the killing of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.
His repeated paroles have often drawn public attention and criticism, particularly given the gravity of the offences for which he was convicted. Ram Rahim’s previous 40-day parole, granted in August 2025, coincided with celebrations related to his birthday, according to reports.
Authorities have not yet detailed the specific conditions attached to the latest parole, though such releases typically come with restrictions on movement and public interaction. The development is likely to spark renewed debate over the frequency of parole granted to the controversial religious leader.
