New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday issued a travel advisory urging Indian nationals to avoid all non-essential travel to Venezuela in view of the rapidly evolving situation in the South American country.

In an official statement, the MEA also advised Indians currently residing in Venezuela to exercise extreme caution, limit their movement, and stay in close contact with the Indian Embassy in Caracas for assistance.

“In view of recent developments in Venezuela, Indian nationals are strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel to the country. Indians presently in Venezuela should exercise extreme caution, restrict their movements, and remain in touch with the Embassy of India in Caracas,” the ministry said.

The MEA shared emergency contact details for Indian citizens, asking them to reach out to the embassy via email at cons.caracas@mea.gov.in or through the emergency helpline number +58-412-9584288, which is also accessible via WhatsApp.

The advisory follows heightened uncertainty in Venezuela after President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were reportedly captured in Caracas and flown out of the country during a joint operation involving intelligence agencies and US law enforcement. The development has significantly escalated tensions and raised concerns over security and stability in the region.

Indian authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates as necessary.
