New Delhi: Consumers in the hospitality and food service sector will have to bear higher fuel costs after oil marketing companies increased the price of commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 42, effective from June 1. The revision applies to the 19-kg cylinders commonly used by restaurants, hotels, eateries, and other commercial establishments across the country.
Following the latest hike, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has risen to Rs 3,113.50 from Rs 3,071.50. The increase is expected to add to operating expenses for businesses that rely heavily on LPG for daily cooking and food preparation.
However, there is relief for domestic consumers as the price of the 14.2-kg cooking gas cylinder used in households remains unchanged. In Delhi, the domestic LPG cylinder will continue to be available at Rs 913.
The latest revision comes at a time when businesses are already dealing with fluctuating input costs. Industry observers believe restaurants and small food outlets may feel the impact of the increase more sharply, particularly those operating on thin profit margins.
Commercial LPG prices are revised periodically based on international energy trends and other market factors. While households have been spared any additional burden this time, commercial users have once again witnessed an upward adjustment in rates.
The unchanged domestic LPG price is likely to provide some comfort to families, especially amid concerns over rising household expenses. Meanwhile, traders and restaurant operators will be closely monitoring future revisions, as fuel costs remain a significant component of their overall expenditure.
With the latest increase now in effect, commercial establishments may have to reassess their operating costs, though no immediate impact on retail food prices has been announced.
