CJP Says Government Reaffirms Protection for Protesters After Late-Night Talks; Fresh Agitation Put on Hold

New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has said it received fresh assurances from the Centre following a late-night meeting with government representatives, claiming that steps are being taken to ensure legal protection for students and volunteers who participated in the nationwide protests over the NEET-UG paper leak controversy.

In a statement issued after discussions that reportedly continued for nearly three hours, the organisation said the government had reiterated its commitment to withdrawing cases against protesters, securing the release of those detained, and encouraging more BJP- and NDA-governed states to issue formal notifications safeguarding demonstrators.

CJP Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das said officials shared copies of notifications issued by the Bihar and Assam governments, which, according to the organisation, provide relief to protesters by assuring withdrawal of FIRs, release of detainees, and protection from future legal action.

Das said the government also assured the delegation that similar notifications would be issued by the Union government and other states to address concerns raised during negotiations.

“No protester will be left behind. We will continue to stand with every student who joined this movement,” Das said, adding that the organisation remained focused on ensuring that participants in the protests do not face legal consequences.

The meeting came just hours after the CJP had accused authorities of failing to honour commitments made during earlier negotiations. The group alleged that despite previous assurances, reports of detentions, surveillance, and police action against student protesters had surfaced in several states, prompting it to warn of a possible return to the streets.

Earlier in the day, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka claimed that protesters in states including Bihar, West Bengal, and Delhi continued to face legal action despite the agreement reached with the government. The organisation demanded the immediate withdrawal of all pending cases and warned that it would resume demonstrations if the assurances were not implemented.

Later in the night, the CJP said it had also received assurances regarding Rajasthan, claiming that no FIRs had been registered against protesters there and that no future legal proceedings would be initiated.

The student-led movement, which lasted 37 days at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, concluded after the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, one of the protesters’ principal demands. While the immediate threat of renewed demonstrations appears to have eased, the CJP has said it will continue monitoring the implementation of the government’s commitments before considering the matter fully resolved.
