Mumbai: In a bid to evaluate operational readiness and strengthen aviation security measures, the Central Industrial Security Force carried out a special late-night mock drill at Navi Mumbai International Airport simulating a high-risk security situation involving an armed intrusion and attempted takeover of critical airport infrastructure.
The exercise was designed to assess the preparedness of security personnel in handling emergencies during off-peak hours, when response mechanisms can face additional challenges due to reduced activity and limited manpower on the ground.
During the drill, CISF teams responded to a scenario involving armed attackers entering airport premises and attempting to seize strategically important installations. Personnel executed a coordinated response, demonstrating tactical deployment, rapid mobilisation and communication protocols aimed at neutralising threats while securing sensitive areas of the airport.
Officials said the exercise focused on testing inter-unit coordination, emergency decision-making and the effectiveness of standard operating procedures under simulated crisis conditions. The drill also helped identify areas for improvement in contingency planning and resource deployment during night-time operations.
Security experts have increasingly emphasised the need for regular preparedness exercises at airports, given evolving threats to critical infrastructure and the importance of maintaining uninterrupted aviation operations.
The CISF, which is responsible for securing major airports and strategic installations across the country, said such exercises are an essential part of its security framework. By conducting realistic simulations, the force seeks to ensure that personnel remain prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to any emergency situation.
The successful completion of the mock drill highlighted the force’s emphasis on vigilance, operational efficiency and round-the-clock protection of aviation assets. Authorities noted that periodic exercises of this nature play a crucial role in strengthening security systems and enhancing confidence among stakeholders in the aviation sector.
The drill concluded without disruption to routine airport activities and served as a practical assessment of the security apparatus tasked with protecting one of India’s key upcoming aviation hubs.
