Chandigarh: With the monsoon season approaching, the Chandigarh Administration has accelerated its preparedness drive by strengthening drainage infrastructure, cleaning key water channels, and expediting repair works across the city to minimise the risk of waterlogging.
Officials from the Engineering Department, under the supervision of UT Chief Engineer C.B. Ojha, are carrying out regular field inspections while monitoring the progress of monsoon-related projects on a daily basis. The administration has directed all departments to complete pending works within the prescribed timelines to ensure uninterrupted civic services during the rainy season.
One of the major priorities is the cleaning and desilting of Patiala Ki Rao and other important drainage channels that play a crucial role in carrying rainwater away from urban areas. Simultaneously, teams are working on clearing road gullies and improving the city’s drainage network to facilitate smooth water flow during heavy showers.
Authorities have also intensified maintenance of roads and associated infrastructure. Damaged stretches are being repaired on priority, while cleaning operations are underway in vulnerable locations identified as prone to water accumulation during previous monsoons.
In addition to drainage work, the administration has launched an extensive tree-pruning campaign to remove weak and overgrown branches that could pose safety hazards during storms or strong winds. Officials believe these preventive measures will help reduce disruptions to traffic and public movement.
The administration has emphasised that daily reviews are being conducted to track the status of ongoing projects and address any emerging concerns without delay. Field officers have been instructed to submit regular progress reports and ensure that all monsoon preparedness measures are completed before the onset of heavy rainfall.
With a coordinated approach focusing on drainage management, road repairs and public safety, Chandigarh authorities aim to minimise monsoon-related inconveniences and provide residents with a safer and more resilient urban environment.
