After Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia Step Back from Excise Case Proceedings Before Delhi High Court

New Delhi: In a dramatic turn in the ongoing excise policy case, senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party have distanced themselves from further proceedings before a specific bench of the Delhi High Court. A day after party chief Arvind Kejriwal announced his decision, senior leader Manish Sisodia has followed suit, stating he will no longer pursue his matter before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma.

In a letter addressed to the judge, Sisodia expressed a lack of confidence in the current process, saying he does not believe he will receive a fair outcome under the circumstances. He went a step further by declaring that he would neither appear in court nor appoint legal representation for his case.

The former deputy chief minister also made a pointed remark about the legal system, suggesting that its direction lay in the hands of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. His statement is expected to stir political debate as well as legal scrutiny.

Invoking the idea of non-violent resistance, Sisodia described his decision as a form of “Satyagraha,” signalling that he intends to protest what he perceives as an unjust process through peaceful means.

This development comes shortly after Kejriwal conveyed a similar stance in his own communication to the court. He had stated that his withdrawal from participation was guided by conscience rather than defiance, emphasising respect for the judiciary even while expressing discomfort with the proceedings.

The situation follows a recent decision by the Delhi High Court, which declined Kejriwal’s request seeking the recusal of Justice Sharma from the case. With both leaders now stepping back, the move is likely to add a new dimension to the legal and political discourse surrounding the excise policy matter.
