2.7 Lakh Cusecs of Water Released into Ravi River, Administration Issues Alert

Dinangar: Following continuous heavy rainfall in the hilly regions, water levels in the Ravi River have risen sharply. Authorities today released 2.7 lakh cusecs of water into the river, significantly increasing its flow. Earlier last week, nearly 1.5 lakh cusecs had also been released due to similar conditions.

The rising water has forced the suspension of boat services for villagers on the opposite banks, while overflow from the river has already entered nearby fields and roads leading to Makoda village. In response, local sarpanches have been instructed to alert residents, particularly the Gujjar community and others living in makeshift settlements near the river, urging them to move to safer locations.

Speaking on the situation, Dinanagar SDM Jaspinder Singh Bhullar said, “The release of water was necessary due to the rising levels. An alert has been issued in nearby areas, and people are requested not to venture towards the river without reason.”

The SDM assured that the administration is closely monitoring the situation. “All precautionary measures have been taken. If flood-like conditions arise, relief camps are ready to accommodate affected residents. Teams have been instructed to ensure the safety of people and property in vulnerable areas,” he added.

Officials emphasized that there is no need to panic, as the administration has made comprehensive preparations to deal with any potential flood emergency.
