Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police have launched a massive manhunt for a gang suspected of murdering the wife of a retired high-ranking police official during a daring home invasion in the early hours of Friday. Tanuja, 62, the spouse of retired Director General-rank officer Vinay Ranjan Ray, was discovered dead on the first floor of her residence in the upscale Prashasan Nagar area of Jubilee Hills. The incident occurred around 2:00 am while Mr. Ray was out of the city, though the couple’s children were reportedly on the upper level of the multi-storey house at the time of the attack.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the assailants smothered the victim to death before decamping with an undetermined amount of valuables. Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, who personally inspected the crime scene, stated that evidence points toward the involvement of a Nepali gang acting in collusion with a female domestic worker employed at the residence. Forensic teams and senior officials have been deployed to the site, and investigators claim to have already secured several significant clues that could lead to a swift breakthrough in the case.
Commissioner Sajjanar sought to reassure the local community following the tragedy, stating that multiple police teams are currently working to track and apprehend the suspects. He urged the public to remain calm but advised residents to maintain strict vigilance over domestic staff and ensure thorough background checks are conducted. A formal inventory is currently being processed to determine the exact extent of the theft as the investigation into this high-profile homicide continues.
