Mumbai: Newly appointed United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Friday visited the US Consulate in Mumbai as part of his first official trip to the city since assuming charge in New Delhi.
Sharing details of the visit on social media platform X, Gor said he was pleased to begin his Mumbai engagements at the Consulate, praising the efforts of the diplomatic team in strengthening bilateral ties. He described the visit as an opportunity to engage with officials working to advance cooperation between the two countries.
Gor’s Mumbai visit comes shortly after he presented his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 14. In a post following the ceremony, he expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for the confidence placed in him and said he looked forward to advancing Washington’s priorities in India. He emphasised that the US and India would work together to deepen collaboration in areas such as security, trade, energy and technology.
Calling it an honour to serve in India, Gor said the current phase of the bilateral relationship offers significant promise and opportunity. He noted that closer engagement with the Government of India and the Indian people would be central to advancing shared goals, including cooperation in defence, trade, critical minerals and emerging technologies.
Rashtrapati Bhavan, in a separate statement, confirmed that President Murmu received the credentials of Gor along with those of the ambassadors of Austria and Trinidad and Tobago during the ceremony.
Gor formally took charge as the US Ambassador to India earlier this week after taking the oath of office at the US Embassy in New Delhi. Addressing embassy staff, he spoke about the close personal rapport between President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing their friendship as genuine and instrumental in resolving differences through dialogue.
He said the relationship between the two nations is anchored at the highest levels and reflects a shared commitment between the world’s oldest and largest democracies. Gor added that he intends to pursue an ambitious agenda aimed at taking the strategic partnership to the next level.
Before his appointment, Gor served as Assistant to the President and Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House. A seasoned political operative and communications professional, he has held several roles within US political and governmental organisations. He is a graduate of The George Washington University, where he earned a degree in Political Science and International Affairs.
