Tinsukia (Assam): Three Army personnel sustained minor injuries after terrorists opened fire at a security forces camp in the Kakopathar area of Assam’s Tinsukia district early Friday, a defence spokesperson said.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m., when assailants allegedly fired from a moving vehicle targeting the Kakopathar Company location. The troops on duty immediately retaliated while ensuring there was no collateral damage to nearby civilian homes, the spokesperson added.
Following the exchange of fire, the terrorists reportedly fled the area after “speculative firing using automatic weapons.” The Army confirmed that only minor abrasions were suffered by three soldiers and that the situation was now under control.
Security forces, including Army and Assam Police, have launched a joint search and cordon operation in the area to track down the attackers. The entire region has been sanitised, and checks are underway along the interstate boundary between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, which lies close to the attack site.
Officials said the operation will continue until the perpetrators are apprehended and the threat is neutralised.
