Sri Sathya Sai (Andhra Pradesh): A powerful gas cylinder explosion in the Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh claimed at least three lives and left several others injured on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. The blast occurred at approximately 12:30 PM in a house located in Kammaravaripalli village within the Kadiri mandal. According to Superintendent of Police S. Satish, the explosion was so intense that it resulted in the complete demolition of two adjacent houses and caused minor damage to several nearby structures.
The victims have been identified as migrant workers from Telangana who were residing in the house where the explosion originated. Preliminary reports suggest that the house may have been used to illegally store detonators and other explosives used for stone crushing, which ignited and triggered the cylinder blast. At least eight other people were reportedly injured in the incident and have been rushed to the government hospital in Kadiri for emergency treatment.
Local police and fire department officials reached the spot immediately to carry out rescue operations and clear the debris. The district administration has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the blast and to verify the legality of the explosive materials found at the site. This incident adds to a series of industrial and domestic tragedies in the region this week, including a major blast at the Vedanta power plant in Chhattisgarh just a day prior.
