Technical Glitch Disrupts Delhi Airport Operations, AAI Confirms Efforts Underway to Restore System

New Delhi: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced that flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport are facing delays due to a malfunction in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), a key component supporting air traffic control operations.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), AAI stated that the technical problem has affected the automated processing of flight plans, forcing air traffic controllers to handle them manually. This manual procedure has slowed down flight clearances and caused temporary congestion in operations.

“Flight operations at Delhi Airport are experiencing delays due to a technical issue in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports Air Traffic Control data. Controllers are processing flight plans manually, leading to some delays. Technical teams are working to restore the system at the earliest,” AAI said in its official update.

The AMSS plays a vital role in transmitting flight-related information between airports and air traffic control centers. The glitch, which surfaced earlier in the day, has resulted in delayed departures and arrivals across several airlines operating from Delhi — one of India’s busiest aviation hubs.

Authorities have assured passengers that every effort is being made to restore the system swiftly and minimize disruptions. Meanwhile, travelers have been advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight status before heading to the airport.

Technical teams are currently on-site working to identify the root cause and resume normal operations as soon as possible.
