New Delhi – Congress General Secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday appealed to citizens nationwide to support the party’s “Vote Chori Signature” campaign, which she said is dedicated to defending the principle of “one person, one vote” and protecting constitutional values.
Taking to social media platform X, Gandhi stressed that every individual’s participation matters. “Every signature is as important as every vote. Join us and show your support to defend our democratic principle of ‘one man, one vote’,” she wrote. She also shared a video message urging people to join the initiative, adding, “Every signature counts, every voice raised for democracy and our Constitution counts.”
Her appeal followed renewed criticism of the Election Commission of India (ECI) by Congress leaders. On Thursday, Priyanka Gandhi accused the poll panel of colluding to weaken India’s democracy, echoing allegations by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who charged that systematic voter deletions were targeting opposition supporters, especially Dalits, OBCs, Adivasis and minorities.
Priyanka Gandhi also urged citizens to watch Rahul Gandhi’s recent press conference, where he accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of shielding those “destroying Indian democracy.” He alleged that fraudulent deletions had surfaced in Karnataka’s Aland constituency and claimed minority votes were being deliberately cut.
Rahul Gandhi’s criticism came soon after the conclusion of his 15-day “Voter Adhikar Yatra” on September 1, which saw INDIA bloc leaders rally alongside him in a show of opposition unity. He further accused the Election Commission of failing to cooperate with the Karnataka CID’s inquiry into alleged voter fraud.
The “Vote Chori Signature” campaign, party leaders said, is aimed at mobilising public opinion and building pressure on the poll body to ensure transparency and fairness in upcoming elections.
