Tonk, Rajasthan: The District Special Team of the Tonk police on Wednesday arrested two men and recovered a large consignment of explosive material from their vehicle during a targeted operation, officials said.
The accused have been identified as Surendra Patwa and Surendra Mochi, both residents of Bundi district. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the DST intercepted their car in the Baroni police station area and discovered around 150 kilograms of ammonium nitrate hidden inside sacks filled with urea fertiliser, DSP Mrityunjay Mishra said.
According to the police, the duo was allegedly transporting the explosive material from Bundi to Tonk for supply purposes. Along with ammonium nitrate, the team also seized 200 cartridges and six bundles of safety fuse wire measuring nearly 1,100 metres. The vehicle used to transport the consignment has been taken into custody.
Mishra said the action was carried out swiftly after receiving credible information, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the explosives and determine their intended use. Police are also probing whether the seized material was meant for illegal activities, including unauthorised mining or other unlawful operations.
The accused are currently being questioned as investigators examine possible links and wider networks connected to the seizure, officials added.
