Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday officially commissioned three state-of-the-art, domestically manufactured frontline naval vessels at the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata. The newly inducted platforms include the stealth frigate Dunagiri, the large survey vessel Sanshodhak, and the anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft Agray. Together, these warships are set to significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s operational readiness by introducing advanced capabilities in maritime combat, hydrographic surveying, and specialized under-sea warfare.
The high-profile commissioning ceremony was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including West Bengal Governor R N Ravi, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan. Conceptualized and designed internally by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau, all three vessels were manufactured by the Kolkata-based defence public sector undertaking, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd.
According to naval officials, the construction of these platforms represents a major milestone for domestic defense production, boasting an indigenous content level that exceeds 75 per per cent. The manufacturing process saw extensive collaboration with the domestic industrial sector, drawing components and engineering expertise from more than 200 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises across the country to strengthen self-reliance in national defense.
