New Delhi: Rail services along the vital New Delhi-Ghaziabad corridor were thrown into severe disarray on Tuesday morning following the derailment of six loaded wagons of a freight train. The incident, which occurred during peak operational hours, resulted in the widespread cancellation, diversion, and rescheduling of more than fifty passenger services across the Northern Railway network. Despite the significant disruption to regional transit, official sources confirmed that no injuries or casualties occurred as a result of the accident.

Senior railway management, led by the Divisional Railway Manager of the Delhi Division, mobilized immediately to the accident site alongside technical response teams to inspect the damaged infrastructure and direct clearance protocols. According to initial assessments provided by Northern Railway officials, the derailment affected both main and loop lines along the busy suburban route, effectively severing a critical arterial link that connects the national capital with eastern and northern industrial hubs.

In an official briefing regarding the situation, Northern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay stated that fifty-three passenger trains had to be cancelled, diverted, partially terminated, or regulated to manage the resulting bottleneck. The sudden adjustments to train schedules left thousands of daily commuters and long-distance travelers stranded at key stations, including New Delhi, Anand Vihar, and Ghaziabad Junction. Railway authorities quickly set up emergency help desks and issued public announcements across affected terminals to assist passengers with alternate travel arrangements and refund processing.

Heavy engineering equipment, including breakdown cranes and track re-railing machinery, was dispatched to the site to clear the overturned wagons and repair damaged track bed sections. Officials emphasized that restoration operations are proceeding on a priority basis to ensure the safety of the line before normal traffic resumes. While an official inquiry has been ordered to determine the precise technical cause of the derailment, railway personnel remain focused on clearing the debris and restoring full operational capacity along the impacted corridor.
