Chennai: Leader of the Opposition and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin is set to be released on station bail on Tuesday following questioning by law enforcement, after the state government informed the Madras High Court that it has no intention of seeking his judicial remand.
The submission was made by Advocate General Vijay Narayan during the hearing of Udhayanidhi’s anticipatory bail petition before Justice G. K. Ilanthiraiyan. The state government confirmed that the former Deputy Chief Minister was taken into custody from his Neelankarai residence in Chennai by Thanjavur police and transported for questioning regarding alleged offensive remarks made during a Cauvery issue demonstration in Thanjavur. The court was assured that he would be granted station bail immediately upon completion of the inquiry, subject to his full cooperation with ongoing investigation procedures.
Recording the prosecution’s statement that no custodial remand would be sought, the Madras High Court closed the anticipatory bail plea while instructing the opposition leader to appear before investigators whenever required. Speaking to the press following his detention, Udhayanidhi denied making any derogatory statements, describing the allegations as politically motivated and claiming that his remarks were misconstrued using edited footage.
